The tradition continues at Wabeek Country Club founded in 1972.

Wabeek Country Club and the surrounding land of Wabeek North and South subdivisions was originally the James Couzens estate built in the early 1920's by renowned architect, Albert Kahn. The manor house was originally built as part of the estate created by Kahn, one of America's most prolific architects, for James Couzens, a Detroit philanthropist who also served as Vice President and General Manger of Ford Motor Company, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Department, Mayor of Detroit, and then United States Senator from Michigan.

Kahn renovated the manor house originally constructed as a stable in 1912, where it still stands today in the Wabeek North subdivision. A dairy barn built in 1928 of stucco cement blocks and red tile roof accompanied the estate. Both sides of Long Lake Road served as grazing land with a tunnel built underneath to eliminate cattle crossing over the road. On Sunday, November 26, 1969, to the dismay of residents in the area, the barn was destroyed by fire.

In 1971, the entire property was sold to Chrysler Realty. In 1972, Wabeek Country Club was founded on the Couzens estate land, where the tradition continues today.

"Today the Club continues to mature into one of the area's most prestigious clubs, and has a broad ethnic base that gives it a cosmopolitan ambience."
